Maybe You’re Not That Special After All? Be fine with it
A lot of us just love to live in delusion. We tend to think we’re somewhat hidden geniuses, just waiting to be discovered by someone or the world. That one day, someone will notice our potential, and everything will fall into place.
Here’s the truth: you’re probably not as special or gifted as you think you are — but the good news is, you almost certainly have more potential than you’ve shown so far.
We usually get our first dose of reality checks in school — for example a math test. It’s very measurable. Numbers don’t lie. The same probably happened with sports or music.
Yet, once we swallow that, we convince ourselves our real talent lies elsewhere — in things that aren’t so obvious, like business. We tell ourselves it’s just not our time yet, but its coming. And, of course, that we could achieve everything we want if we really wanted to.
In my case, once I moved to less measurable ideas — in my case business and investing - I got stuck in the preparation phase — the “I’ll start soon” phase. There was always something in the way as an excuse not just to start yet: a stressful day at work, being tired, needing to save more money first, a weekend away with family...
Looking back, it wasn’t a lack of ability that held me back — I just never truly went all in. Alcohol was a constant handbrake on, sabotaging all the progress I managed to make here and there. I was always tired, foggy, distracted.
Seneca said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, no wind is favorable.”
Clarity in this distracted world is power — but you also need the courage to act. Once you get off your backside and sober up, you finally give a real shot in life. Since stopping, I wrote a book, got certified as a coach, lost 15 pounds, created an online course, sourced a product Im about to launch, to name a few. No way in the world I could be making this video if I was still drinking.
Once alcohol is removed, you will show up, do the work, and enjoy the process. And you will not have “what if” thoughts all the time, blaming yourself and the world.
Just reflect on it for a minute – at least for me, that was the ultimate productivity hack I needed.
